What is Anaphylaxis?

Anaphylaxis is a severe and serious allergic reaction that could be life-threatening.

Vaccinations can cause anaphylaxis. Symptoms of allergic or anaphylactic reactions can happen within seconds or minutes from exposure to the triggering event, such as the administration of a vaccination.

Signs and symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction include:

Fast heart beat

Weak pulse

Skin rash

Nausea

Vomiting

Difficulty breathing

Hives

Swelling

Feeling of tightness or lump in the throat

Difficulty swallowing

Flushed or pale skin

Runny nose and sneezing

Tongue and lip swelling

Tingling in hands, feet, mouth, or scalp

Dizziness

Confusion

Sudden weakness

The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) does not cover injuries related to COVID-19 vaccines.
