Vaccines are generally safe, but rare injuries can occur. Some common vaccine injuries in the VICP include:
- Shoulder Pain
- Shoulder Tenderness
- Shoulder Swelling
- Shoulder and arm Weakness
- Shoulder Stiffness
- Limited range of motion in the arm and shoulder
- Difficulty moving shoulder and arm
Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS)
- Numbness and/or tingling
- Muscle weakness
- Difficulty talking, chewing, swallowing
- Difficulty walking or lifting
- Difficulty breathing
- Back pain
Transverse Myelitis (TM)
- Sudden lower back pain
- Sharp or shooting pain in the legs, arms, chest, or abdomen
- Numbness and/ or tingling
- Stiffness, tightness
- Muscle Spasms
- Weakness in the legs or arms
- Feelings of heaviness in the legs
Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM)
- Fever
- Headache
- Nausea and vomiting
- Sleepiness
- Weakness in the arms or legs
- Confusion
- Coma
- Unsteady walking
- Numbness or tingling
- Trouble with vision
- Seizures
- Trouble swallowing
Brachial Neuritis or Parsonage-Turner Syndrome
- Sudden and intense pain in the upper arm or shoulder.
- Sharp or throbbing pain in the arms or shoulder
- Constant pain
- Increased pain with shoulder movement
- Pain that generally disturbs one side of the body
- Loss of muscle control in the arms or shoulder
- Loss of feeling in the arm or shoulder
Anaphylaxis
- Fast heart beat
- Weak pulse
- Skin rash
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Difficulty breathing
- Hives
- Swelling
- Feeling of tightness or lump in the throat
- Difficulty swallowing
- Flushed or pale skin
- Runny nose and sneezing
- Tongue and lip swelling
- tingling in hands, feet, mouth, or scalp
- Dizziness
- Confusion
- Sudden weakness
